FAMU Drops Tough 3-0 Opener To Coastal Carolina

MIAMI, Fla. (Aug. 26) – The Florida A&M University Women’s Volleyball Team opened their 2016 season Friday morning with a hard-fought 3-0 (13-25, 21-25, 20-25) setback at the hands of Coastal Carolina University in the opening match of the FIU Volleyball Invitational.
After dropping the opening set, 25-13, FAMU tightened things up competitively, dropping the second set, 25-21, before losing the third, 25-20.
In the second set, FAMU led most of the way, enjoying a eight-point edge, 17-9, before Coastal surged late, tying the set twice at 18-18 and 19-19, before outscoring the Lady Rattlers, 6-2 to clinch.
Freshman Maria Yvette Garcia led FAMU with nine kills, followed by freshman Radka Dimitrova with seven, senior Ginna Lopez-Chavez with six.
Natasa Savovic paced Coastal (1-0) with a match-high 10 kills.
WHAT’S NEXT: FAMU takes on the University of Miami at the Knight Center Friday evening at 6:00 p.m.
