TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- Tuesday, the Florida State football program announced a home-and-home series with the University of Georgia for the 2027 and 2028 campaigns.

The series will start with a September 4, 2027 game in Tallahassee, that'll mark the season opener for both teams. FSU will return the favor in Athens on September 16, 2028.

“This is a series with history dating back to the early years of FSU football, and I’m glad we are resuming it,” head coach Willie Taggart said. “These two games will be great for fans of both programs, especially those interested in traveling to experience the atmosphere here in Tallahassee or in Athens, and will give us another opportunity to play in front of our large group of alumni in the state of Georgia.”

The Seminoles and Bulldogs have not played each other in the regular season since October 16, 1965, when FSU took down UGA, 10-3, in Tallahassee.

FSU and UGA met in the 2003 Sugar Bowl, a game that saw a 26-13 UGA victory.

According to Winsipedia, UGA leads the all-time record between the two schools, 6-4-1.

UGA is the first team not named Florida or Notre Dame to be added to the Seminoles' non-conference schedule past the 2020 season, according to FBSSchedules.com.

FSU opens the upcoming 2019 schedule with a neutral site game in Jacksonville against Boise State and will face the Broncos in Boise. The Seminoles will face West Virginia in Atlanta in 2020.
