MONTREAL, Canada (Aug. 14) – The Florida A&M Rattlers couldn’t keep pace with the University of Laval Rouge et Or. The Rattlers have earned a split thus far on their Canadian pre-season exhibition season, dropping an 87-74 contest at the University of Laval today.
Desmond Williams led all scorers with a game-high 19 point on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He also sank 7-of-10 free throws and pulled down eight rebounds. Derrick Dandridge went 5-of-9 from the field and 2-of-4 from the three-point arc to score 13 for FAMU. Craig Bowman rounded out the players in double figures for the orange and green with 12 points, also carding 2-of-4 from the three-point arc and 5-of-9 from the field.
FAMU trailed by just two points after the first quarter, down 23-21. A scoring drought in the second quarter would be the undoing of the Rattlers as UL outscored FAMU by 13 points, which would be the final margin as well. UL posted 25 points, while FAMU could muster but 12. The 48-33 lead at the half would be more than the Rattlers could overcome in the second half.
UL had two players in double figures. Karl Belanger went 6-of-14 from the field and 4-of-10 from three-point range to post 18 for UL. Teammate Alain Bernard would be the only other Rouge et Or player to card double figures as he chipped in 11 points.
In the third period, the Rattlers were able to claw their way back into the contest, cutting the margin to single digits. FAMU was unable to muster the run to catch UL, ending on the down side of the 13-point decision.
