MONTREAL, Canada (Aug. 13) – The Florida A&M Rattler basketball team opened their Canadian exhibition with a thrilling 94-92 double overtime victory over the Carabins of the University of Quebec at Montreal in the season-opening contest. The Rattlers had solid scoring to match the French-speaking opponents.
FAMU jumped out to a 21-15 lead after the first quarter, but UQAM would catch stride int he second quarter and take a 42-30 lead into the half.
Behind the shooting of Craig Bowman, who put in a game-high 21 points, the Rattlers stormed back to tie the score at 72-72. In the first overtime, both teams would score nine points, ending the first extra frame in an 81-81 tie. Finally, in the second overtime, the Rattlers held the Carabins to just 11 points, while scoring 13 in the frame to get the two-point victory.
Desmond Williams was the second leading scorer for FAMU, pouring in 17 points, while Marcus Barham, was the third leading scorer for the Rattlers adding 13.
