WCTV Community Classroom - Latisha Williams from Madison County Central School

MADISON, Fla. (WCTV) - Every third Wednesday of the month during the school year, our Lanetra Bennett highlights a teacher in our area to help get them what they need for their classroom.

It’s a part of WCTV’s partnership with “DonorsChoose”, an online tool that allows educators to request donations.

For this month’s Community Classroom segment, we spoke with Latisha Williams at Madison County Central School.

She teaches second and third-grade math and science.

Williams has a few different projects listed on DonorsChoose, where she’s asking for items that she says will improve learning and character.

Ms. Williams is asking for donations for creative whiteboards.

The whiteboard provides a visual and hands-on experience for students to work out math problems in an organized way.

Also, the place value whiteboards can help students express how to solve math problems by using words.

“Something new, something hands-on, something different. Kids love to have different materials to use in the classroom to learn how to solve math problems. That’s exciting for them also.” She said.

Ms. Williams would also like to get items to use as rewards for her students.

She wants to set up a point system, where the kids will get a tangible item as a reward for positive behavior.

She says it will encourage students to behave and strive for success.
