TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - A North Florida nonprofit is working to educate the public while protecting some of the region’s most vulnerable wildlife, but is in need of volunteers to keep its mission moving forward.

The founder of North Florida Wildlife Center, Ryan Reines said the center is about more than caring for animals, it’s about educating people about conservation.

“Our goal is to inspire our visitors to conserve wildlife, even if it’s indirectly by making small changes in their daily lives, through immersive and meaningful experiences here at the wildlife center,” Reines said.

The center works to protect wildlife through public education, outreach programs, habitat restoration projects and the care of rare and endangered species.

Reines said volunteers play a major role in helping the center connect with the community while supporting conservation efforts.

“Not just for the wildlife center but for every nonprofit, volunteers are essential,” Reines said. “We work on a very limited budget, and we have so much work to do here at the wildlife center that we really rely on volunteers.”

Volunteers assist with daily operations, including leading tours, preparing food for animals, maintaining habitats and working in the gift shop.

The center is looking for volunteers. Anyone interested in volunteering must be at least 18 years old. To get involved, click here.
