LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB) - Lanes fully reopened on Interstate 10 in Suwannee County after a dump truck crashed into an overpass on Monday morning.

After the crash, workers made repairs to the County Road 795 overpass at I-10, north of Live Oak.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say the dump truck’s bed was raised, causing it to collide with the overpass. The bed detached and was wedged between the road and the overpass.

Both lanes were initially closed; however, they were later reopened. The overpass required minor repairs. No one was hurt.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) officials say incidents like this don’t just damage bridges; they can also put other drivers at risk.

“You know, somebody traveling behind that bed may also be in danger from that strike,” said Jacob Pickering, an FDOT spokesperson. “So again, this is a very serious incident, and we want to remind folks out there to please put your bed down before you access the roadway, especially these dump trucks.”

To help prevent these crashes, FDOT has installed reminder signs near some overpasses urging dump truck drivers to check that their beds are lowered before getting on the road.

Monday’s crash also comes after several overpass strikes in Marion County in recent years, including incidents that eventually led FDOT to raise the Northwest 66th Street bridge over I-75 to reduce the risk of future collisions.
