Jefferson County staple Johnston’s Meat Market to hold 100th anniversary celebration

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. (WCTV) - A Jefferson County favorite, Johnston’s Meat Market turns 100 years old Saturday.
The celebration got an early start Thursday, when Jefferson County officially proclaimed Nov. 7 “Johnston’s Day.”
Family-friendly events run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, with live music, a kids’ zone and more. Johnston’s will also be providing trolley pick-ups for additional transportation.
Regular customer Shelly Hoornstra says supporting local businesses like Johnston’s is important to her.
“Shop local; we know where our beef is coming from. A good local business that is obviously been here a long time, and like knowing where our food comes from and getting good quality meat,” Hoornstra said.
More news out of the Big Bend:
The owners say they’re looking forward to celebrating the milestone and continuing the Johnston legacy, which includes a new location coming to Tallahassee.
Owner Patrick Figueroa said it means a lot to carry on the tradition of Johnston’s Meat Market.
“I’m just excited about having a good community event where people can come. And let’s also give back to the community by having these sales because right now there’s a lot of people that are hurting; we just really wanna be a part of being able to help people, which is always one of our trademarks here at Johnston’s,” Figueroa said.
Saturday’s celebration will wrap up with a fireworks show.
