Investigators do not yet know what caused the fire. The State Fire Marshal’s Office is leading the investigation.
Bay County Emergency Services Assistant Fire Chief said 100 firefighters were on scene at the height of the fire. By 7:43 a.m., the fire was 90% contained. Responders have not yet been inside the building.
“Upon arrival, I don’t believe we had anybody around that was seen or inside the structure. So they cleared the structure, started immediate attack. As you can imagine, when a heavy fire load with a tee shirt shop -- concerned about the exposures. So, a lot of water applied to the fire, the crews did a great job at containing it. Unfortunately, as you see, the building is going to be a total loss,” the Bay County Emergency Services assistant fire chief said.
One lane of Thomas Drive near the shop remains closed. Authorities are working to fully reopen the road.
