Trump announces new Chief of Staff-Stephen Miller
Susie Wiles will move to MAGA Inc., the Trump political operation
WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - President Donald Trump announced Friday he’s making a major personnel change - promoting Stephen Miller to White House Chief of Staff.
Trump announced the move Friday in a Truth Social post. Miller’s first day on the job will be Monday. He’s replacing outgoing Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, who will join Trump’s political operation. Wiles was the first female White House Chief of Staff in American history.
Miller, who served in both Trump administrations, has been the Deputy Chief of Staff since Trump began his second term Jan. 20, 2025. He’s been a long-time aide to the president, serving in a variety of roles in both the first and second term. His appointment sends a very strong message to the new 120th Congress, which will be controlled by Democrats. Miller is not the conciliatory type, which means there will be lots of battles between the White House and the new Congress over the next two years.
“President Trump is the most transformative political leader in American History — and he has single-handedly saved America from those who would destroy it. It has been the privilege of my lifetime to have served on his team from Day One, and I am honored beyond words to serve as his White House Chief of Staff.I want to thank the incomparable Susie Wiles for her years of devoted service to the President and the Country, and for her friendship. The mission now is more clear than ever: Fight with all of our soul to support our President and defend this magnificent Republic,” Miller posted on X Friday.
The move comes days after Democrats scored major wins in the midterm elections, which included flipping control of both the House and Senate by wide margins. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) both criticized the move on X.
“Stephen Miller is a dangerous xenophobe and reckless extremist who has American blood on his hands. His presence in government should be eradicated like a malignant tumor. Fire him today,” Jeffries wrote.
“Donald Trump learned nothing from his historic defeat. Stephen Miller is the architect of the most barbaric, inhumane policies of this administration. Trump couldn’t have made a worse choice. Our Democratic majorities will fight him every step of the way,” Schumer wrote.
As for Susie Wiles, she merely expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to serve, writing, “More than anything, I’m grateful for the extraordinary people I’ve had the privilege of working alongside. While my role may be changing, my commitment to the President and the mission never will.”
