TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Fall camp is already hot around these parts, but Wednesday the Valdosta State Blazers turned on the afterburners as they held their first scrimmage of fall camp.

Head coach Graham Craig noted how hard they played, but there are some things this group needs to work on. He said it’s still an open competition at all positions, including at quarterback, a decision he hopes to have made by game week.

The good news? They have two and a half weeks to figure the roster out and fine tune some things, something Craig said he’s confident they can do after today.

“Getting into playing shape, actually playing real football, moving the ball, getting in those situations and substitutions and things like that we have to clean up some, but encouraged by the way new guys have picked things up, been able to go install to install to learn those things and come out to execute,” he said. “Thought we executed really well today. Still have some things to clean up communication wise both sides of the ball, but overall, execution was there.”

August 30th is debut day for the Blazers. They’ll travel to Birmingham to face Clark Atlanta.
