VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) - For almost a decade, Valdosta State football has had a pretty clear plan of succession at quarterback. Rogan Wells, Ivory Durham and most recently Sammy Edwards were either heir apparent or won jobs and never let them go fairly quickly en route to winning a lot of games for the Blazers.

But this fall, VSU held a wide open quarterback race to be Edwards’ successor, a battle that looks as though it’s now back open.

V State turned to Jameson Holcomb under center in last Saturday’s blowout 56-3 win at Chowan. The junior transfer from Murray state got the nod over Harris Boyd who had originally taken the role of QB1 in fall camp and started the first two games.

“Jameson gave us a spark when he came in versus Johnson C. Smith. He’d been practicing well and had a really good camp so we gave him the opportunity to start,” said Craig of giving the start to Holcomb. “He played well, we obviously ran the ball really well and he managed the game really well so we’ll continue to let those guys get reps but Jameson will get the start this next week also.”

After three weeks on the road, VSU is enjoying a bye week before welcoming in UNC Pembrooke for next Satuday’s home opener. The Blazers will host five of their next six games at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.
