Valdosta State offensive struggles lead to 31-0 loss at home
The loss was the Blazers first ever shutout loss at home
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - For the first time since kicking off the season a month ago, the Valdosta State football team enjoying the comforts of home. Unfortunately for the Blazers, their opponent made them feel anything but comfortable.
UNC Pembroke led 10-0 at the half, and scored 21 in the second half to seal up a 31-0 win. Valdosta State threw three interceptions, including a pick six that iced the game for the visiting Braves. The loss was the Blazers first shutout loss since 1991, and their first ever at home.
“I thought we had a good week of practice, obviously didn’t get the result. Every time we started to get into a rhythm offensively, had a turnover or penalty that set us back and just couldn’t get out of those holes,” said Valdosta State head coach Graham Craig. “That’s on me to find a way to get that fixed. It was ugly today. You can’t win when you turn over the ball as many times as we did today. We’re going to have to address those at practice and see who has a good week of practice and go from there.”
The Blazers finished with 20 yards on the ground, while they had 312 passing yards. The loss dropped Valdosta State to 2-2 on the year.
The Blazers are at home next weekend when they host Lenoir-Rhyne. Kickoff is set for 4:00.
