Valdosta State quarterback carousel continues with The Citadel on the horizon
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Playing a division up or a division down is all a part of the college football circle of life, but one Valdosta State hasn’t participated in in quite some time.
The Blazers have no faced off against an FCS foe in over 20 years, but that streak ends this weekend as a trip to Charleston on deck this Saturday as the Blazers take on The Citadel.
Per usual, the Bulldogs option attack is one of the best ground games in all of FCS with a pair of quarterbacks that can really run the football. Valdosta State head coach Graham Craig likes what he’s seen week after week from the Black Swarm defense, but knows it’s going to take 60 minutes of disciplined, assignment football to spring the upset.
“Feel good about the way we play defense at times,” he said. “You saw it in the last couple games we’ve played really well for stretches and then had a possession here and there where we can’t get off the field on third down and things like that but I think our defense is improving and I’m looking to see another improvement this week. Gonna have to stop the run and with that you have to be dixciplined in your assignment doing that.”
The last time VSU played an FCS opponent? September 2003 when they blew out Florida Atlantic 45 to 17 in Fort Lauderdale.
