Valdosta State football wins OT thriller over West Florida for third straight conference title

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Valdosta State football topped West Florida 47-44 in overtime to win its third straight Gulf South Conference title and guarantee a spot in the NCAA Division II playoffs.
The teams traded touchdowns throughout the matchup. Late in the third, the Blazers fought to tie the game 37-37 on an Eric Watts running touchdown.
In the fourth, Watts was able to score again to give Valdosta State the late lead.
West Florida forced overtime on a touchdown in the final minute. The Argonauts were forced to kick a field goal in the first OT, but it was partially blocked and no good.
That allowed Blazers freshman kicker Matt Rolader the chance to win the game on a field goal. He drilled the 37-yard attempt to win the game for VSU.
Valdosta State will find out its NCAA fate during the selection show at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
