LIVE OAK, Fla. (WCJB) - A controversial reclaimed water project proposed for North Central Florida has been canceled, according to a state senator.

In a letter, state Senator Corey Simon says the Water First North Florida project has been canceled in its current form. He asked developers to go back to the drawing board, calling for a better long-term solution to restore and protect groundwater.

The project would have moved millions of gallons of reclaimed water per day from the Jacksonville area to North Central Florida.
