TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) - Any coach will tell you, having a guy you can plug in anywhere is priceless, and for the Taylor County Bulldogs, that guy is Trey Lytle.

“He’s a fighter in every aspect of his life, and that’s why he’s productive He’s productive at everything he does,” said head football coach Jesse Braswell. “He’s going to be in the right place at the right time and make the play when it comes to him.”

“I like being able to do everything,” added Lytle. “It’s the same in other sports too.”

A five sport athlete, Lytle does it all year round for the Dawgs, but right now, he’s focused on making this senior year special on the gridiron.

“I’m hoping for a deep run in the playoffs.”

Lytle is an anchor on the Bulldog defense, but that wasn’t always the case.

“My eighth grade year I wasn’t good at all, but I got better progressively,” he laughed.

“As a sophomore he didn’t play, and last year he was a big part of our team,” added Braswell, noting that Lytle led the team in interceptions as a junior. “He’s really the leader on our defense. I’m super proud of him. I wish I had 50 just like him.”

As much as he leads on the field, he leads in the classroom too. Lytle has a 4.6 GPA, and when he graduates high school, he’ll do so with his AA degree in hand.

“He’s a coach’s dream,” said Braswell. “He’s a good football player too and that helps, but he’s a lot more than just a good football player, he’s a good human. Who you are and what you do shows up everywhere in your life.”

“You have to do your best in both, give 110%,” added Lytle. “I like being able to use my brain on defense, being able to see different formations and knowing what they’re going to do before they do it.”

That’s what this team’s hoping makes the difference for them down the road.

“We need him to be at his best for us to have a chance.”

As he’s proven before, having a chance, is all he needs. Lytle also kicks for the Bulldogs, and is a backup receiver as well. He said he wants to student to become a dentist.
